Crochet Chronicles:

Aren’t roses beautiful? I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t love this glorious genre of flowers. And this is seen in the profusion of patterns created and posted by so many talented crocheters . So today I thought let me make a little rose to go with the hairband that I posted here last week.  This pattern is a very simple one and a very popular one as well….

Materials Used:

Red Rose Thread #10

Hook : 1.5 mm

Tapestry needle

Method:

Depending on how big and how many layers you want your rose to be…Hook in chains in multiples of 3….each 3 chains represents a petal. I am making a little rose to fit in with the hair band that I made.

Hook in 39 chains plus 3. Total 42 chains.

Row 1:

3 ch, skip 3 chains and dc in 4th chain; *3ch, skip 3chains and dc in 4th chain*….continue ** until the end. what you get is a pattern like a ladder…….with 3 chain loops.

Row 2:

Now we create the petal on top  of first row.

chain up, sc,hdc, 6 dcs, hdc,sc in the first 3 chain loop created.  hook in *sc,hdc, 6 dcs, hdc,sc*  in the next 3 chain loop and continue until the end.13187647_557521214435258_794491675_n

Now, slowly roll the petals using the ladder part as the stem. Make sure that when you roll the petals around each other it forms not the shape of a rose. Use a tapestry needle to sew the stem and the inner petals in place so that it stays together.

Crochet Pouf Cover

CROCHET POUF COVER

Crochet Chronicles:

One upon there lived a lovely little pouf……she was a pretty lass…clad in rustic earthen hues and adorned in shells and wooden beads. Time passed and the glory of her rustic hues faded, the shells and beads unable to bear the ravages of time fell off leaving our glorious damsel jaded and a bit unsure of herself….No longer did visitors to the home ooh and ahhh over her. She felt that life had passed her by……and that there was no escaping the abyss of old age….at least that’s how she felt…

Until….one day she discovered, that age or growing old had nothing to do with feeling good…….the thought which came to her out of the blue….changed her life….so she decided to love herself a little more, to  take care of herself a lot more….and just as a wild summer goes into a blazing  Autumn, dancing around in  hues of reds, browns, mustard, yellow, ochre, orange, brick and tan……..For Pouf too…..Life changed…..it became more meaningful, peaceful and divine….much, much better than it ever was…………

Oh……..Alrite….I had this pouf which had bust it’s seams and needed to be fixed…:-D!!!!

Method:

First you need to make the surface of the pouf….I  used a Mandala pattern. You may have seen that post…Here is the link to that post….do the mandala accordingly.

https://crochetnmore.wordpress.com/2014/12/22/mandala/

Materials used for the side of this pouf cover :

Soft Feather , Nature – 250 gms,  Maroon

Cotton Sirdhar, Laura Knitting cotton – 50gms – Red approx

Bali Ochre and Brick….25 gms approx.

Hook size: 3.00 mm

Abbreviations Used:

Single Crochet – sc

Double Crochet – dc

Half Double Crochet – hdc

Chain – ch

Slip Stitch – ss

Once the Mandala is made,  you have to make the side of the pouf…..this is made like you would hook in a basket. I made most of the side in hdcs…..so working in the inner loop/ the back loop of the last row of the Mandala on the wrong side…

Row 1-3

Hook in one hdc per chain until end of round. SS.

Row 4 – 7

Then, I began to reduce the stitches cos the shape of the pouf that I was working on was such…. I began with missing one hdc every 30 stitches for the next 4 rows.

Row 8

Hdc in every hdc until round is complete. ss

Row 9- 10

Next reduce it by one every 25 stitches for 3 rows,

Row 11

Hdc in every hdc until round is complete. ss

Row 12- 16

Then reduce by one every 20 stitches for 5 rows

Row 17 – 19

Reduce by one every 15 stitches for 3 rows

Row 20

hdc in every chain in the next row.

 DSC_9385

Row 21- 26:

3 chain up, 2 dc in next 2 hdc; 3 chain skip 3 hdc; *3 dc in next 3 hdc; 3 chain, skip 3 hdc; 3 dc in next 3 hdc;* Repeat until end of row…ss into the 3ed chain of the starting 3 ch.

Row 27 – 34:

Chain 2 chain up; 10 hdc in each hdc ; skip one hdc….continue by reducing one stitch every 10 hdc. End with a ss.

Row 35:

Slip stitch in every hdc. This gives the project a smooth, professional  finish. The piece now fits well over the pouf…but you need to cover the area where the Mandala is joined t the side to create a finished look. To do this I created a wave stitch around. You need to make a covering stitch in the row where the last stitch of the Mandala begins to work the side…that is the first hdc stitches. You work this covering stitch on the front loop of the last stitch of the Mandala.

How to work the Frill/ Covering row:

*sc, hdc, dc, trcr, dc, hdc, sc*; in the front loop. continue ** to the end.

This Pouf is 25 inches by diameter and the height is 12 inches. But it’s shape isn’t even….it bulges in all kinds of places and hollows in at the oddest places……which is why the reducing of stitches is done the way it has been done…you will have to find your own way to work out the side….So this post can just, be used as a guide and I do apologise for that.

Isn’t she Lovely now?….I feel like Stevie Wonders…..Isn’t she Lovely, Isn’t she beautiful, isn’t she wonderful….la……la…la…..I know silly…..but there you are…..have always liked making up stories about inanimate things…..Chalo….See ya in my next post …it’s going to be a tutorial post…..how to make rectangles….Just need to make that photo tutorial and we are done…!!!!! Take Care and may the Crochet Goddesses be with you.
